Sea Organ

The Sea Organ is built into the Zadar seafront, and is recognisable by the special shape of a part of the coast, comprising several rows of steps descending towards the sea. The steps extend for 70 metres, and 35 pipes of various lengths and diameters are installed perpendicularly underneath them, at the low tide level. These pipes have LABIA (whistles), which play 7 chords of 5 notes. The sound, or air pushed through by the sea, passes through the perforated stone steps above the channels. It is a place where human thought and skill meet the energy of the sea, the waves and tides; a place of relaxation, reflection and conversation, with a continuous concert made up of the mystical notes of “Nature’s orchestra”. The Sea Organ represents the realisation of a project designed by Nikola Bašić, an architect from Zadar.
